Cyprus

Cyprus is situated in the north-eastern corner of the Mediterranean and is the third largest island. It has a population of approximately one million The capital of the Island is Nicosia. The other major cities of the Island are Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos.

There are two International Airports that handle Air Traffic to the Island. These are situated at Larnaca on the coast which is situated some 50 km from Nicosia, the capital. The other airport is situated near Paphos. Both have a wide range of flights from the UK and mainland Europe.

Climate

Cyprus enjoys a mild Mediterranean type climate, short mild winters and long warm summers. Cyprus enjoys about 300 sunny days per year. Average daytime temperature in winter is about 10-13 C and 26-29 C in the summer.

Cyprus enjoys a high European standard of living. The crime rate is approximately 20% of the average crime rate in Europe. This makes it an ideal place to holiday or to live on a permanent basis. Language

The official languages of Cyprus are Greek however as Cyprus was once a British colony most of the population speak English, and many of the street signs, shop signs and menus are written in English.
